This year’s Comrades marathon was well attended by a huge number of Gugs runners. Everyone went out there to finish this gruesome race. I am happy to say that a large contigency managed to overcome the hills of Durban to complete the race in alloted time.
To those who did not managed to finish please I say go back to the drawing board and fight another day. Next year I will be very happy if we could double up the numbers. We had 38 at the starting line.
Now feast yourselves on …

We know who likes trying out different attire in the club. So it came to me as no surprise at Safari that Cynthia entered the fancy dress competition. Apparently she has been trying this for a couple times before. I am not sure how many times she has won but this time she was up against some bridal chick.
The MC was never on her side as he said something along the lines this “old geese” been around or something but this counted against our lovely Cynthia.
Anyway we still love her …

Our cross country season kicks of this coming saturday with the 1st meet at UWC. I know most people tend to believe that x-country is not for them but I challenge you this year to make a change and be part of this series.
Our club stands a chance of winning most of these categories as long as we have enough participants. I urge you to come along just once and I promise you that you will never look back at finding another way of spending your saturday or sunday afternoons again.

The long wait is finally over. Two Oceans takes place this weekend. If you had not prepared now is not the time to start doing so. This week is for final touch ups for athletes.
We as a club have a record number of 84 athletes who have registered for the two events on the day. I just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone taking part in these events and those who spend the Friday with their families on Good Friday at UCT to enjoy themselves.
The club wishes you …

Our LongTom Trip
By Naasief Mohamed
26th March 2011
As someone who had started taking running more seriously recently (if you can call the last 18 months “recently”), I wanted to do more long distance races. Since I had done most of the Cape Town based marathons I was eager to run more of the well-known out of town races.
My ex-colleague and fellow Gugs runner, Pierre Kleinsmith, had often mentioned how memorable (in other words, tough) the LongTom 56km Ultra Marathon was, which he had done once before in 2009. Earlier this year …

I need to get your views on how best we can manage a facebook page for the club. A club member has indicated to us that he wants to create a facebook page for us and now I need to find out from you how best we can utilise this utility?
Your comments on how we can use it. Is it a right for the club? What benefit will it be for members? Just say what you want to say.

Recently our province played host to the cream of Africa’s best in running. For the first time we hosted these sons and daughters of this beautiful land right here in Mzantsi.
We got to witness how the Kenyans have come to be known the kings of running. These athletes know what to do when they are on the track. They did not disappoint and they lived up to that standard!
Our club played host to our neighbours Zimbabwe and Madagasca. Seen in these pics are those athletes who braced our shores.
Not forgetting …

The spirit of Easter comes with spirit of giving. In keeping with what our club stands for and that is reaching out to those who do not have.
We encourage club members to always lend a helping hand in whatever way they can. Our club always associates itself with the people who do not have. We have some of our top athletes who are not working but are putting the club name on the front pages of our newspapers and always bracing the podiums at every race.
So Saied together with his …
