This year’s Soweto marathon lived up to its fame again. As usual our Gugs athletes came out in numbers. The weather was cool but the race was as always tough.
As I keep saying each time I go there that what steals the show for me in this race is huge number of female runners. I am not sure what we are doing wrong in the Western Cape “Godzillestad”. We need to do a survey is why our female counterparts are finding it dificult to take up running.

This being 2010, a year Mzantsi hosted the World Cup. This year was not only good for the soccer but also good for one of our athlete in that he completed double 10th runs in both Two Oceans and soweto marathon.
This he achieved by putting in a mileage of not more than 25k in training or should I say just attending races and of course he cycles.

Recently one of our club members visited the den of lions according to the world of running. We all know how the Kenyans dominate every aspect of running be on the field or on the road. They are the kings. Well our club RCS Gugs knows no boundaries in that one of club members recently took part in one of their races.
He was not pertubed about what he was up against and how fast these guys run all he had in mind was flying the Gugs flag across the continent.

Our club RCS Gugulethu Athletics Club will be hosting its annual 10km race on the 16th December again. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better. The race this year is in its 10th year. The race started off in 2000 and then it was called Amy Biehl Reconciliation Day Race. As you will recall Amy Biehl was the exchange student who met her untimely death during those turbulent years in our townships. We named the race after her to try and bring that reconciliation amongst the people …
