CONSTITTUTION OF THE GUGULETU ATHLETICS CLUB
- 1. NAME OF CLUB
The club shall be called *GUGULETU ATHLETICS CLUB and shall be composed of members elected in accordance with the articles of this constitution.
- 2. HEADQUARTERS OF CLUB
The headquarters of the club shall be in, Guguletu.
- 3. OBJECTIVES OF CLUB
To encourage and facilitate the social and sport of cross-country, running all track and field events, road running and walking.
To encourage social and competitive sport in general.
- 4. CLUB COLOURS
The colours of the club shall be black and orange.
Vests will be half panelling black and orange.
On the front in the centre of the panelling will be the words GUGS AC
Plain black shorts.
- 5. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS
Subscriptions shall be R100.00 and become due and payable annually on the second day of January. Vests will cost R80.00.
Junior’s subscriptions shall be R30 and become due and payable annually on the second day of January. Vests will cost R50.00
Subscriptions shall be reviewed at the Annual General Meeting.
The committee shall have the power to remit in part or in full, any member’s subscription by any special resolution.
No member, whose subscriptions in respect of the current and / or previous year(s) have not been paid in full, shall be eligible to receive a prize in a race organised by the club or any financial assistance from the club.
5.4.1 Any prize, which has been withheld in the terms of article 5.4, shall be handed over to the member concerned once he has paid in full his subscriptions due in respect of the current and all past years.
- 6. APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
Anyone applying for membership shall sign an application form which shall embody the following:
A declaration of amateur status in accordance with the definition as determined at the time by Athletics South Africa,
The age and date of birth of the applicant,
If under 21 years of age, the application must be signed by a legal guardian / parent,
A declaration that the member is not a member of an athletics club affiliated to Athletic South Africa,
6.1.4a if unable to make such a declaration, the applicant shall supply full details of previous and present membership,
The appropriate subscription for the current financial year shall accompany the application form.
- 7. ELECTION TO MEMBERSHIP
Election to membership shall be by majority vote of officers in good standing at a committee meeting.
7.1.1 Second claim membership shall not be given to members of open clubs, which are under jurisdiction of Western Province Athletics without the consent of the committee.
Upon election, a new member shall be entitled to a receipt for this subscription
- 8. VOLUNTARY TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
Members desirous of resigning shall be by majority vote of officers in good standing at a committee meeting.
The committee shall have the power to withhold the granting of a clearance to any member tendering his resignation or to a member whose membership has been terminated under the provisions of article 11.1 until such member has mete all his financial obligations to the club and has completed in full any term suspension imposed under the provision of article 11.1
- 9. LIFE MEMBERSHIP
The number of life members at anyone time shall not exceed eight in number.
9.1.1Life membership shall be conferred only at an annual general meeting after due notice.
9.1.2 Such award shall be in recognition of long and meritorious service to the club.
9.1.2a Life members shall be entitled to participate fully in the clubs activities including the right to attend and speak in committee meetings.
9.1.2b Life members shall be eligible to stand for election to the committee.
All nominations for life membership shall be submitted in writing to the secretary before September 14.
The proposer and the seconder, both of who shall be members of good standing at the time of the nomination, shall sign any such nominations.
Any such nomination shall fall away unless the committee has approved thereof by special resolution.
Should the committee approve of a nomination for life membership, they shall submit such nomination to the next Annual General Meeting.
No discussion shall be permitted at an Annual General Meeting prior to voting on any nomination for life membership.
Article 9.5, however, shall not be construed as prohibiting the Chairman from informing the members present of details of such nominee’s service the Club.
Voting on any nomination for life membership shall be by secret ballot.
Approval by special resolution at an Annual General Meeting shall be necessary for election to life membership.
Any life member may risk an application in writing to the Secretary to be kept informed of the committee meetings. Any such application shall lapse after two years from the date of application by may be renewed for further periods of two years upon application.
