We as a club that originates from the previously disadvantaged area, we try to keep up with the community developments either by being part thereof or running our projects.
At the end of last year through our annual Reconciliation Day Race we manage to organise or incorporate a 4km race event. The proceeds of this race went as a donation to JL Zwane church women’s group. We will be looking at rotating these donations to the different groups that we feel deserve our donations. Heroism: Last runner tells of his struggle with heroin

JERRY Mboweni, the last man to complete the Comrades Marathon before the cut-off time, was once a heroin addict.
Mboweni, who runs for the Gugulethu Athletics Club, said he wanted to give up many times along the route, but was motivated by the love of his Creator.
Still shaking after flying over the finish line, Mboweni, who completed his first Comrades, said it was difficult to explain how he got the strength to keep going.

RCS GUGULETU ATHLETICS CLUB INCENTIVE SCHEME – 2009
The RCS Gugs club Incentive Scheme for 2009 is based on a thorough examination
of the race calendar for the year ahead. Races have been categorised according to factors such
as visibility and prestige. There incentives are for all age categories also.
The onus is on the athlete to make him or herself familiar with the scheme.
Our ideal is to see Gugs athletes performing well at the bigger, more prestigious events. We would
like to see our athletes target and achieve of their best at these events …
